My Nala cosplay for the Anime Festival Wichita yesterday.

Broadway style. :)

I decided to go to the festival at the last minute, so I only had about 3-4 days to make a costume. I started this on Wednesday and finished it Friday night, just in time!

MASK - The Nala mask is an old hockey mask. I covered it with a layer of craft foam and then glued the face pieces on top. I had to stuff the nose and mouth with cotton fiber-fill in order to help it keep its shape; the hockey mask's nose isn't shaped like a lion, obviously. It's spray-painted with a rock textured spray paint and the facial details are acrylic. It's attached to a $2 baseball cap.

SHIRT - The top beneath the corset is just panty-hose painted with a white fabric paint. My head is sticking through the crotch and the toes are cut out. (I didn't cut past the seams, which helped prevent runs.)

COLLAR - Just velcroed material. The material for the tail, collar, and the back of the mask is the same velvety material.

CORSET - Material usually used for drapes. I would have made a beaded corset if I'd had the time, but this material was sturdy and the design very Lion King-esque, so I think it works. It's a single piece that's been darted, and the back laces up.

BACKPIECE - The back is a separate piece, attached to the costume only by a hooked elastic band around the top. It's the same material as the corset, but reeds and other twine-ish materials have been hotglued to the fabric. It lies flat, but because of the materials, it's actually very flexible and bendable. The tail is attached to the bottom of the piece, and the tip is beaded.

SKIRT - Velcroed wrap. Nothing special.

LEGGINGS - Spray-painted brown leggings. Nothing special.

SHOES - Was going to go barefoot, but decided on dancing slippers at the last minute.

For a last-minute costume, I think it turned out great. I had the full face paint and a little Simba ornament with me too (I picked him up at the actual Broadway show).

My brother and I are going as Timon and Pumbaa for Halloween. That'll be even more fun. :)
